A total kitchen makeover can be hard on the budget. If the budget is tight, and you can put off investing on new appliances and furniture then you can start with the small things like accessories.
Since you can still make do with your current appliances and cabinets, you can certainly spruce them up with these little additions. Then you can probably add a fresh coat of paint to make the kitchen feel like new. Here we'll examine some ideas that greatly enhance the aesthetics of your kitchen.
- First decide on the theme you would like to adopt. Are you going for an old country feel? Or a futuristic shiny metallic look? Or you just don't have the slightest idea? If that's the case, you can probably drop by your favorite newsstand and get your hands on some magazines about home decorating. Look for one that specializes on kitchens and you'll very likely be able to pick up a few ideas. There are also a number of websites that you can look at for more ideas.
- If you have open cupboards or shelves that have some extra space, you can add a few things to take away that drab look. Cookbooks, plants, fancy bowls, baskets or even a family picture can help brighten it up. If you're going for a country theme, one of our favorites is getting a big cylindrical jar and filling it with colored fusilli (uncooked of course!)
- Artwork and hanging plates can add a touch of class to your kitchen. But don't make the mistake of hanging these objects too high. Art is supposed to be appreciated so hang them at eye level or maybe just a few inches above it. This should ensure that visitors will notice them right away when they wander into your kitchen.
- And while you're dreaming of ways to impress your visitors, hang some copper pots and pans from the ceiling. This gives an impression that you are a connoisseur. You can also hang plants from the ceiling and that should basically give your kitchen a real homey feel.
- Tables and countertops can also be decorated with a little shrub, or kitchen utensils or even a bowl of fruit. Little bottles of herbs and spices are equally eye-catching.
- Aside from the houseware stores, you can also visit curio shops to pick up some things you might not be able to find anywhere else.
All these are just little suggestions and you certainly do not have to follow each and every one. Your should be systematic in your decoration, so you basically start from one area then move to the next and so on but it's better to start with the paint job then accessorize afterwards. Before long, you will have a nice cozy little kitchen that is worthy of being pictured in a magazine and you didn't even have to spend a fortune.
